Photoshoot! The final images!
For the Photoshoot we had a series of photos taken, but over all we are allowed to choose 8 for ourselves to keep. The images above are the 8 I chose though stupidly I was in a bit of a panic and picked a horrid image of myself, grrr! but the other images I chose were good. I prefer the images with the paler cool lighting as I think that this has a crisper and more professional look for the market I am aiming my work to. they are high res images so i will be able to zoom in to the details and use these on the pages in the Sample 12 Catalogue.

Annie Bascoul
Bascoul is a French artist, who was featured in the Lost in lace exhibition. Her work is inspiring I love the mix of the traditional and modern, the overall appearance of the work is traditional, you can see the direct link between lace making techniques but then seeing it on a completely different scale brings in a new aspect. I felt when viewing and experiencing her work in person like Alice in Wonderland, it was so unusual and surreal.
The artist reveals...
...the ideas behind the work
“I want this work to be rare and precious, always beautiful and poetic. For the suspended ‘bed’— Jardin de lit, lit de jardin — I’ve used materials which refer to bedding: the white down duvet, which evokes the erotic poetry of Béroalde de Verville, whose text is on the ground underneath the bed. White and gold are for me the colours of light, beauty and ambiguity”.

...the techniques used to make the work
“The traditional needlepoint lace of Alençon, which is largely inspired by the drawings of plants and gardens and flowers, appears in all of my work”.

Previous Project!
Last term my project was completely different to how I anticipated it to be. I was pleased with the outcome, but I think that the pressure form some of the members of staff was a little bit to much, though that has resulted in me becoming more aware of the way I work and how I want my work to be perceived. I have posted some images of the project to show how my work has developed, and to give examples of other ways in which I can work.

These are just some of my favorite images from my project, what I enjoyed about this project was the colours, they were so rich and unusual for my work.

The Amaya
The Amaya is a high powered industrial embroidery machines that use a computer based program to transfer designs in to stitch based designs. It is a complex machine but when you begin to understand the complexities of the machine you can create good quality stitch sample in a much shorter space of time than by hand (not that you get the same quality in the stitch) I enjoy using the Amaya to create my samples though I actually use the sample produced as sketchbook work rather than final embroidery samples.

Lost in Lace (video)
At the Lost in Lace exhibition I was intrigued by Nils Volker's installation 'One Hundred and Eight'. Although the work is not something I am interested in I was intrigued by the motion it produces, I found it relaxing to watch... see what you think of it.
In an interview on the Crafts Council website Volker describes his work as “Most of my work is of a rather technical nature; creating electric circuits, programming, drawing circuit boards and soldering. But in the end all the engineering lies hidden under an organic appearing surface and can only be imagined”.
Don't want to stop watching...

Lost in Lace
I have recently visited the Crafts Council Exhibition Lost in Lace at Birmingham, I was very inspired by the amount of innovative and beautiful interpretations of how to do lace making in today's busy society where the more time consuming crafts are being forgotten or over looked. Have a look at this link for the exhibtion it was brilliant.

Hannah Bertram
A Contemporary artist from Melbourne, Hannah Bertram is one of my favorite artists. Her use of ephemeral materials for exquisite time consuming patterns is very inspiring. The ornamentation of her work is what attracted me to her work in the first place. As I researched further into her work, I can now appreciate it even more. This is her website link enjoy, one of my favorite projects is The silence of becoming and disappearing.

Textile Crafts, Sample 12
I am in my final year of University in Huddersfield where I am studying Textile Crafts. This blog will document my final months of my degree.
These are some of the designs I have been working on, looking at Rococo furniture and embellishment.
these are just rough designs, will upload better ones soon.

My Project! First draft of the brief.
For the final project my intention is to produce fabrics that are highly embellished pieces that consist of traditional and contemporary techniques. The samples will be based on heritage designs and styles that are to be translated into slightly more contemporary designs and layouts.
Technical file, sketchbook and visual diary, documenting thought process, design developments,
historical design research and technique development.
For this proposal I will need to consider what market it is that I am aiming my work at, I intend to create pieces of fabric that are very heavily embellished. I hope to use traditional techniques such as gold work but also combine it with contemporary techniques using the Amaya. I would like to create the samples so that are resonant of the ornamental embellishments of the Rococo and Baroque period. I am intending to use a colour palette of gold.
